The Canberra Festival is a nine-day event held annually around March in Canberra, Australia.  This event offers various exhibitions and entertainment including, dance, art, sporting events, cultural heritage, music and film.  One of the most popular exhibitions is hot air ballooning. The “Canberra Festival Balloon Spectacular” takes place on the lawns of old Parliament House every morning of the nine day festival. Thousands of spectators gather to watch the clear autumn sky fill with balloons of every conceivable shape and color. The event attracts balloonists from around the world for a chance to participate in races, display their balloons and show-off their colorful balloons. Each day begins early as the balloonists have to inflate the balloons and launch by dawn.  Head to the old Parliament house and enjoy a hot breakfast of sausages, eggs, pancakes and bacon arranged by Belconnen Lions Club while watching dozens of colorful balloons rise with the sun.

The fun doesn’t stop there! During the day are concerts performed by local bands and the “Canberra Times Outdoor Show”.

As Ballooning totally depends on weather, date and program is approximate. Next Canberra festival will be held on 6-14 March 2010 and in the year 2013 will be the centenary celebration.
